ECOCENTRO DANAUS

Our Projects


Ecocentro Danaus carries out environmental education activities in schools, colleges, businesses and the wider community as part of the activities carried out for obtaining the Ecological Blue Flag La Fortuna (For 4 consecutive years the Center was the main driver of this committee).

 

 

In March 2011 Danaus Ecocentro receives award by the Blue Flag committee, with two stars in the category of Protected Natural Area and continues today to develop activities of conservation and environmental protection which led to obtaining this award.

 

Additionally it has a tree nursery of native species which reproduce about 10 thousand trees per year from 30 different endangered species in Costa Rica such as: The Almond Yellow, Mahogany, Golden Fruit, Cenizaro, Cocobolo, Ojoche, between others. See the adot a tree program

 

 

Ecocentro Danaus receives national and foreign volunteers at any time of year. The volunteer time is for a maximum of 60 days and at least 2 days. We have two single apartments for two people each, and food service for which, the volunteers must provide $ 15 daily per person.

The volunteer may cooperate in activities such as:

  • Cleaning paths
  • Plant Maintenance
  • Attention visitors

 

Jobs in the tree nursery of native species:
  • Filling bags
  • Transplant trees
  • Weeding of seedlings
  • Tree Planting
  • Seed collection and preparation

 

Collaboration in the farm-bred butterflies in tasks such as:

  • Prepare Food for the larvae
  • Cleaning larvae drawers
  • Collection of eggs
  • Inventory of birds, mammals, insects, amphibians and reptiles
  • Assist in environmental education activities conducted in schools surrounding the project, among other activities
